In-school and remote learning at-home sessions for students:
Format:

Kids will interact with Deb Toor (Conservation Science Educator) as they:
  • make observations and inferences, and ask and answer questions
  • travel “virtually” around the world to meet wildlife in their habitats and conservation scientists as they use scientific methods and tools.

  • Before the session: I will send a short “welcome” digital presentation to prepare students for the session.

  • During the session: I will share my screen to show video snippets and images from scientists, conservationists, and nature photographers.

  • After the session: Students will receive:
  1. fun resources, such as ebook and activities;
  2. citizen science projects where they can collect data on some of the wildlife (featured in the session) in their backyards and communities (with their families while social distancing).

  • Topics: For info on session topics, and feed back from teachers: visit www.conservaction.info

Students will use scientific thinking as they make observations and inferences of images and video snippets.

Through this learning adventure, participants will investigate:
  • What are the various wildlife ecosystem roles?
  • Why is biodiversity important? How does biodiversity loss impact the interdependence of life (including human life)?
  • How are biologists using scientific methods & tools to learn about human threats to species and assess their conservation status?
  • How can schools and communities participate in citizen science and stewardship programs?
  • How do scientists use credible scientific data to advocate for legislation and rehabilitation programs?

Benefits for Teachers & Students
Do you want to transform student learning while enhancing curriculum with relevant, real-world environmental science literacy?

Engaging the Next Generation with curated content is provided by conservation scientists around the world.
Kids (as future decision makers) and adults (the current decision makers), will benefit from these dynamic presentations.  Students will be empowered to be vocal about the biodiversity crisis that affects their future and advocate for sustainable human actions that protect biodiversity.

Enrich your teaching units
about conservation, animal adaptations, food chains, habitats, ecosystems and biodiversity.

Students will learn how scientists use traditional scientific methods and tools and modern technologies to provide credible scientific data to support legislation and rehabilitation programs.

American Teachers:

Resources meet U.S. Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
