IUCN Global Species Programme along with IUCN Species Survival Commission  assesses the conservation status of species, subspecies, varieties, and even selected subpopulations on a global scale to highlight taxa threatened with extinction, and thereby promote their conservation.

BirdLife International collates and analyses information on all the world’s birds to set priorities for action, through species-specific initiatives, safeguarding of sites, campaigns and policy interventions.
Check out the Species Search List.  BirdLife is the IUCN Red List authority for birds, classifying species in terms of the risk of extinction.

HBW Alive database provides full accounts for every bird species known to science up to June 2013, including distribution maps and color illustrations.
